My House on Zillow

March 26, 2008

I love Zillow. Of course, I’d say that sitting in Tulsa while house prices are appreciating as they are and the housing bubble hasn’t quite been realized here. We’re typically the last to see “bubbles” and among the first to recover from them. Unless it’s oil related, but we’re more diversified now than ever. At least, we locals tell ourselves that. Oil and gas prices are definitely helping bouy us locally right now. So, knock on wood we don’t have to put it to the test.

On a lark I’ve listed our house for sale on Zillow. More for giggles than anything. It’s a “Make me move” kind of thing. I have no burning desire to sell or move. But, if someone saw the house, was serious and felt good about some of the renovation work left to be done… I’d sell. Heck, everything’s for sale when it comes right down to it. [EDIT: already moderated some comments about this... I'm not linking to the house for the same reason I don't blog about my kids or post their pictures - Security. Local house hunters will either find our house and research it like everyone else does. Or not. Gawkers and lurkers I can do without.]

Of course, if it *did* sell… we’d have the unpleasant problem of finding new digs. Michelle’s been keen on building our next house. Undeveloped property prices in Tulsa are, shall we say, a teensy bit out of whack with reality. Oh well. It is what it is. I’d love a log cabin (in the Lake Tahoe style not the Abraham Lincoln style). She’d probably go with that. Of course, Zillow’s going to have to do a hockey stick for us for that to happen. So… maybe a starter Abraham Lincoln style is as close as we get :P

Zillow Update

September 20, 2006

Just received in the email from the folks at Zillow:

Own Your Home? My Zillow Lets You Edit Your Facts
You can now edit your home facts on Zillow.com, but first you need to verify that you are the home’s owner.

Go to your Home Details page to confirm that it’s your home — then edit away.

Aside from them still not supporting Safari (grumble grumble) I can now go in and right the wrongs of my property details. This is fantastic and very much worth the effort: Several of our family and friends are full-time or on the side real estate agents. They ALL use Zillow as part of their pricing strategies. Why? Becuase their clients do! It may not be the best tool in their bag. But, it’s one that their customers are beginning to know (and love).

Woz’s Old House for Sale…

September 6, 2006

Now, THAT is a nice pad!

Asking price is $10 million. Zillow suggests $7.2 million. Plenty of bargaining room. :)

Zillow’s Carnival of Real Estate

July 12, 2006

I guess this “carnival” thing is a real deal. Zillow’s got one going.

And, this is the first I’ve seen of the Carnival Index. This from the fine folks at Zillow (which I still love):

A blog carnival is a weekly summary of the best posts submitted on an agreed topic. Each blogger takes turns at hosting the carnival on their blog. The host blogger receives carnival submissions during the week and then publishes a summary (the carnival), linking to the full posts submitted by the other bloggers who will typically link to the carnival post from their blogs.

Nice!

You Don’t Get What You Don’t Ask For

June 26, 2006

The Scoble’s are selling their house and according to Zillow.com will do quite well in the year and a half three years they lived there IF they get what they’re asking. Looks like the neighborhood supports their pricing thoughts. (I LOVE Zillow… have I mentioned that lately?)

Careful what you ask for guys… you just might get it!

[And Maryamie Scoble says the furniture's for sale too! Hardcore! The safe money says they keep the TV and the beemer. GB]

Zillow is STILL cool!

May 23, 2006

Although I’m not sure how Rich Barton and crew are making their money on Zillow, the site is awesome.

Our neighbors just sold their house. It was on the market for 3 1/2 days. They sold at their asking price which was $40k below what their agent suggested (and which also happened to be EXACTLY what Zillow’s highest ZEstimator price had been). Think the real estate market is being guided by Zillow? You bet!

I’m not thrilled with Zillow’s accuracy on property facts. For instance our house now has more bedrooms than are reflected and (as you know) we’re taking the half bath to a full. So, how do I update my property’s info? Also, the ‘built’ date is wrong on Zillow…? Odd.

I know someone from Zillow.com is subscribed to the rss of this blog (I can see you in the daily traffic report!). So, please, either comment back here on how to permanently update my property’s info or email me.
