REVIEW: Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT

If I knew more about photography I’m sure I’d give this camera better than 4 out of 5 stars.

But, since I don’t I’m giving it 5 out of 5 stars.

It’s light, not overly large, feature-packed and reasonably fast.

The kit lense that comes with it is an 18-55 mm lense. Decent general purpose hardware. But, it’s not going to get you in tight for macro shots and it’s fairly decent optics. But, for the higher end tight-in or wide angle you’re going to want to spend some serious money to expand your optics. We haven’t done this yet, but we will. And in the lead up to buying this camera I’m feeling good about the variety and price points for the accessories for this camera (flashes, remote trigger, etc).

What it won’t do… It won’t capture movies or sound. The software that comes with it is some non-Adobe Photoshop-light business that I’m going to uninstall PDQ.

There’s a terrific how-to, get-inspired-fast site for the Digital Photography the Canon way. Highly recommend that.

We’re going to test print some “books” via iPhoto (Mac OS X 10.4.7). So, if anyone has any tips for us along those lines… it would much appreciated.
