Fighting Comment Spammers

Ready to suit up and help me wage war on comment spam?

The putrid little punks are at it again and rather than shut my blog down and walk away for several months like I did last time… I’m fighting back and need your help!

Most of the comment spam I’m catching in Akismet these days is originating from Blogspot (aka Google’s Blogger). I’m going to add the site names to my comments and I’ll hope you’ll follow them through and FLAG them via the tool Google has made available for crowds to identify slimy sites (so they can dismantle them). I’ve managed to take a few out but a crowd can really bring down these deals quickly.

I’ve also notified the abuse guys at the isp where the majority of this trash originates. We’ll see if that gets someone’s access shut off for a while.

The thing to remember when commenting here is to NOT post the address in such a way that the spammer inadvertantly benefits from linking to them… See how I’ve done this below in the comments.

Between these 8 domains I had nearly SIXTY spam messages last night. So, I’m sick of this person’s IP address constantly wasting my time and hope you’ll COPY the blog address and go FLAG it as objectionable. I’m intentionally NOT linking to them as I don’t want to give them the link juice. Let’s bring these suckers down and feel free to comment similarly here. I want to nail these suckers! And feel free to DIGG this to really get some traction going!!!
