The ONE Campaign

You know… Bono’s right. He’s right on a lot of levels about Africa being on fire. He’s right that Americans can do a LOT with the resources at hand. He’s right that we can’t afford to NOT stand by and watch an entire continent spiral into utter chaos.

I’m more concerned about my local situation. The Homeless. The lliterate. The abandoned and abused elderly. Crime. AIDS. Starvation. Poverty. And, what have I done about THAT situation!? Not enough. But, I’ll keep giving. Keep volunteering.

But, be that as it may, and your situation may be similar… here we stand at the brink of an historic opportunity to do the right thing and address the needs of a BILLION people. Please help ONE? This is about compassion and justice where it’s needed most. That said, my compassion and my ability to lend a hand is not finite. Neither is yours. We can always do more.

I’ve just signed the ONE Declaration committing myself to help fight the emergency of global AIDS and extreme poverty.

The first thing I’m doing is asking you to make that commitment, too.

ONE is a new effort by Americans to rally Americans – one by one. So far, over two million have signed the declaration in support of a historic pact for compassion and justice to help the poorest people of the world.

I think your name belongs on that declaration, too. You can put it there by visiting:

  1. […] So, Sir Elton, to paint us all with that brush of yours is a bit out of whack. Some of us ARE actually trying to make the world a better place. To which I will disagree with your second point, that people in your field have been lax in doing something about the world’s state (ala BandAid and We Are the World). Bono’s efforts via The One Campaign are far more broad than you obviously care to know. I’m not so certain what Sir Elton’s cause is but he might do well to peek outside his hidey hole and participate in the larger world around him. […]
