My iTunes Widget (SAMPLE CODE)

itunes-widget Apple has seen fit to create the iTunes Widget (mine’s pictured above). I’m trying to figure out how to shoehorn its embed code into the gWHIZ blog. So far, no dice. Until then you can take a gander here for a supersize preview.

Alternatively, you can create your own HTML document and paste the following in the body somewhere to see it in the flesh…

I’m hoping WordPress is kind to the code below and doesn’t puke up or misbehave. If it does, please know I toiled against the Titans to make it work.

<embed name=”my_itunes” align=”top” width=”150″ scale=”noscale” height=”330″ pluginspage=”http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer&#8221; salign=”lt” class=”widget” type=”application/x-shockwave-flash” wmode=”transparent” quality=”high” menu=”false” src=”http://ax.phobos.apple.com.edgesuite.net/flash/myitunes/myitunes.swf?feed=WebObjects%2FMZStoreServices.woa%2Fws%2FRSS%2Fmyrecentpurchases%2Fartworkheight%3D53%2Fhtml%3Dfalse%2Fsf%3D143441%2Fuserid%3D18221776%2Fxml%3Fv0%3D7720&feedType=recent&cssPath=http://ax.phobos.apple.com.edgesuite.net/flash/myitunes/styles/black.css&local=143441&#8243; allowScriptAccess=”always”></embed>

Hmm. I just don’t think this is going to be working on any WP.com-hosted blogs any time soon – they are fairly strict about disallowing the use of embed.

G’morning Mr. Piper. There are quite a few things Matt & Co. have selectively disallowed. It seems those are more “conditional” and case-by-case than expressly forbidden. So, while the WordPress.com platform is darned good. The guys metering this functionality out haven’t completely plugged all the holes. There ARE workarounds for some of these things (like advertising for instance). So, I’ll continue to poke and probe on the edges and see what gives.

Interesting stuff – I’d be interested in learning more about some of the workarounds you mention 🙂

There’s a bulky yet simple way to publish your Itunes widget; use the “aside” category widget. Put your Itunes Flash content within a post, assign it to the “aside” cat and display the “aside” category wherever you want on your blog.

    1. The downsides: it requires a plugin that embeds flash within your posts.
    2. your “aside” category will be used only for that single Itunes post.
